Slouching over a laptop, looking down at my phone, sitting for hours. None of these habits are exactly helping my posture. So when I came across the Forme Power Bra, a $178 posture-correcting sports bra designed to encourage better alignment, I had one question: can clothing actually affect the way you sit and stand?

The idea sounds almost too easy. Put on a bra, pull your shoulders back, and suddenly look more upright?
I wanted to find out what makes the Forme Power Bra different and whether the price makes sense for someone who simply wants better everyday posture.
What Is the Forme Power Bra Designed to Do?
The Forme Power Bra isn't meant to work like a stiff posture brace. Instead, Forme uses strategically placed multidirectional tension in the fabric to guide the shoulders and upper body toward a more aligned position. The brand calls this its patented Muscle Memory Technology and says the bra is designed for everyday wear, workouts, Pilates, travel and other daily activities.
The biggest difference is that the support doesn't only come from the band or straps. You can feel the structure across the upper back encouraging the shoulders to settle into a more open position. Think gentle reminder, rather than someone physically forcing your shoulders backward.
Forme Power Bra vs. a Regular Sports Bra
A regular sports bra mainly has one job: support your chest and reduce movement. The Forme Power Bra adds another goal, which is upper-body alignment.
A typical sports bra doesn't really care if you're hunched over your laptop. The Forme design does.
Its back structure and compression make it feel much more intentional around the shoulders and upper back. That also means it feels more structured than the soft, stretchy sports bras I would normally choose for lounging.
The Posture Test
When wearing a posture-focused bra like this, the most noticeable difference reported in wear tests is while the bra is actually on. NBC Select's long-term tester found that it helped pull her shoulders back and lift her chest while wearing it, although she still returned to slouching after taking it off.

That distinction matters. Clothing may cue better posture, but I wouldn't expect one bra to permanently fix years of sitting badly. Strength training, mobility, desk setup and everyday posture habits still matter.
Where I think the Forme Power Bra makes the most sense is as a physical reminder. Instead of repeatedly thinking, "Shoulders back," the garment does some of that reminding for you.
Could I Actually Wear It All Day?
Comfort is probably the biggest question with any posture-correcting sports bra.
The Power Bra is compressive, and multiple wear tests describe the fit as noticeably tight. At the same time, reviewers generally describe the fabric itself as soft and supportive.
Forme actually suggests starting with only a few hours per day during the first one to two weeks while your body gets used to the garment. That sounds more realistic to me than immediately wearing it from breakfast until bedtime.
Does the Forme Power Bra Run Tight?
Forme currently recommends sizing up for the best fit and comfort. The brand also offers regular and wider armhole options because getting into a highly compressive bra can be tricky.
So even if your usual sports bra size feels obvious, check Forme's size chart before ordering. This isn't the bra I'd deliberately size down in for extra support.
What I Like & Don't Like About the Forme Power Bra
What I like:
the posture-focused construction feels genuinely different from a standard sports bra. I also like that it looks like polished activewear rather than a medical-looking posture brace. It could easily work under casual clothes or as part of a workout outfit.
What I don't like:
$178 is expensive. Very expensive for a sports bra. The compression may also feel restrictive for people who prefer barely-there activewear, and getting the right size matters more than usual. Most importantly, I wouldn't treat it as a magic posture fix.
So, Is It Worth Spending $178?
It depends on what you're expecting. If you simply need a comfortable sports bra for running or Pilates, there are plenty of cheaper choices.
But if sitting straighter is something you're actively working on and you like the idea of clothing that gives your body a constant posture cue, the Forme Power Bra becomes much more interesting.
That's really the appeal. It isn't about putting on a bra and suddenly developing perfect posture. It's about becoming more aware of how you're sitting, standing and carrying your shoulders throughout the day.
And for someone who spends far too much time hunched over a screen, that reminder might be the feature that makes the Forme Power Bra worth considering.
